HIS GRACE (2)
They
had lost contact with each other when she travelled to the states. They have
been friends since senior high school through to the university. People thought
and in fact, told them to their faces that a friendship like theirs will not
last to see another day. They were called water and oil, though that was
far-fetched. It’s amazing how great they were together considering they have different
cultural background and ideologies. Ayanna Blackmore and Onyeka Darkey stuck to
each other like glue. They were strongly bonded by two things; their love for
arts and their Christian faith.at a point; people assumed they were lovers but
that was never the case between them, they were great friends.
“When
I read your anthology “IN A MUD”, I was totally blown off .thanks for
acknowledging me; you would have been dead meat if you didn’t, after making me
analyze every poem you wrote in school.”
They
laughed and sipped their drinks.
“Isn’t
this beautiful?” a woman said holding out the painting “FAITH”.
“I
have looked at it from different angles and i read a new meaning each time.”
“I
will like to buy it.”
“Okay,
this way madam,” Ayanna said placing a complementary card on the table and
leading the way.
“I
will call you”, Onyeka shouted. Ayanna turned, smiled and gave them thumbs up
sign.
The
sun shone in the clear blue sky. The air was filled with a soft, sweet
fragrance. Ayanna sang softly as she worked in her studio. The studio had
paintings splashed all over. There were pictures of famous artists hanging on
the walls. She lifted her voice into the chorus.
“You
are stron-n-ger, you are stron-n-ger.Sin is broken, you have saved me. it is
written, christ is risen-n-n-n-, Jesus you are lord-r-rd of all.”
She
washed her brush.
“Hi,
beautiful”.
Ayanna
spun around .Onyeka stood at the door looking serious.
“Hey,
come on in”.
He
walked straight for the painting “grace” and gazed at her intently. The misery
in her eyes was deep and along with it, a sudden hardness to her face.
